Raju, a young graduate, goes to Bombay to try and make his fortune. He is confronted with the poverty and the vices of a big city which put his virtue to the test. He will need much willpower and love to escape corruption and to overcome evil. The title of the film refers to an article in the Indian penal code which condemns theft and is illustrated here by Raju’s virtue. The hero’s profile is also a direct tribute to Charlie Chaplin.
