The “Studio Darom” workshop was launched in 2014, as a collaboration between Cinema South Festival in Sderot, Israel, and Festival des 3 Continents in Nantes, France – As a new “Produire Au Sud” workshop for aspiring young Israeli talents in film.

Produire Au Sud, translated into Studio Darom (South) in Hebrew – captures in its title the essence of our southern festival and film school – that of the “South” as a state of mind; a flow of consciousness; an endless ground for artistic expression and inspiration.

Cinema South Festival part of the School of Audio and Visual Arts at Sapir College, has been running each year under the most complicated and challenging conditions, translating into films the intricate daily human existence, aware and in response to stories on both sides of the fence. Cinema South Festival has grown to be an international event, each year hosting dozens of filmmakers in competitive and Panorama sections, retrospectives, masterclasses and Pitch events. The festival showcases the best of the School of Audio and Visual Arts at Sapir College’s films and original projects in various genres: Fiction, Documentary, Animation, Tv Pilots, Web-series etc.

Studio Darom, organized in collaboration with the Produire Au Sud team, and with the support of the French Institute in Tel Aviv, the Negev Cinema Fund, the Rabinovich Foundation for Cinema, Mifal Ha’Pais and Sapir College, aspires to promote rising young talents and assisting them in bringing their films towards full funding and realization, with the mentorship of leading European and Israeli figures in the fields of Scriptwriting, Production, Sales & Distribution and the Art of Pitching.

Studio Darom is proud to have been the launching pad for 2 feature-films that were thus far completed and acknowledged globally (The Dive | Yona Rozenkier & Kobi Mizrahi, The Swimmer | Adam Kalderon & Naama Piritz), 2 films that will be completed and released this year (Grocery | Yuval Shani & Efrat Cohen, Tom’s 2nd Suicide | Karni Hanemann & Sivan Vardina), and many more in various stages of completion.
