A twelve-year-old son of a shepherd, Zhasulan, has a heart disease and needs to go away for treatment. His mother takes him to a health centre in the mountains near Almaty, the capital of Kazakhstan, and leaves him there fora month. The problems of the provincial boy are doubled by the fact that he doesn’t speak Russian whereas the children and adults only speak this language. The boy can’t bear staying in the sanatorium and escapes.
