The Wave
(La ola)

by Enrique ALVAREZ

Havana, 1994. A young couple tries to live a love story which ivill also be the story of their love for their city.

“On an island, there is always the unavoidable presence of the sea; that’s your first and last experience. La Ola was born out of that emotion: La Ola is the whiteness, that clears our memory, what comes and goes; the recurring wave that surrounds us and cradles us. My city is caressed and destroyed by waves. There’s no other fate for islanders, forever in the midst of despair and fulfillment. The illusion is in what has been left behind or what lies ahead. You cannot escape from yourself. ”
