Eva is a filmmaker passing by Madrid, a fatigued flaneur content with (or conditioned in) observing the world from a distance, alone. Dante is an academic, holed up in the Museo Reina Sofia and digging – by himself – forever deeper into documentation depicting the toil of Argentinian workers in the early 20th century. They meet, talk, share information and examine each other’s profession with rigour and sometimes painful honesty. Their relationship bloom – but, wait, María Aparicio’s latest feature is just not that kind of film: if there is love, it is only with the spaces of the serene museum and the hushed city streets at night; or with the solidarity of kindred spirits who count on each other in the perennial struggle for social justice. Knowledge about the past is power, true – history is only useful when it serves as the prologue to revolutions in the here and now, not sometimes, but always.
