Gempol, a poor young boy who works as a trash collector, has a strong desire to study and to go back to school. This leads to a misunderstanding with an elementary school officer, who suspects him of theft when he is caught peeping at school children having their lessons in a classroom. Even though Gempol’s dirty appearance disguises his good intentions, Andri, one of the boys in the class, feels sympathetic towards him. Andri becomes deeply concerned about less fortunate children his age, as a result of the incident at school, he tries to make friends with Gempol. Their friendship enables the two children to try to understand eacb other’s problems. The more they see each other, the more they appreciate each other, and helping each other in a spirit of mutual respect becomes a partial solution to their problems. They play and work together. Sharing their joys and sorrows fills their lives with a sense of belonging.
