La transe
(El-Hadhra)

by Moncef DHOUIB

  • la transe

According to one tradition, a spot of “harkous” (a kind of perfumed dye) is hidden on the body of the young bride. Her new husband is required to find it, taking as much time as necessary. If he fails to find it, he profanes the body of his wife. In that case, her neglected body can only be liberated by trance. Different brotherhoods open their sanctuaries for music, dance, and for the trance. The ceremony is called : “El-hadhra”.
