In Salvador de Bahia, during Vargas’s dictatorship, Tonio, a dropout, is racked by social and religious questioning. His mistress wants to keep him away from his pals, but he finds himself involved in a conflict between strikers and the police and ends up robbing his mistress to support the harassed strikers. Unhappy with her love and sex life, she gives him away to the police and blackens his political reputation. Tonio gets arrested. After he comes home, his intimate drama keeps tormenting him.
