What is PaS ?
Created in 2000, as part of the Festival of 3 Continents (Nantes, France), Production and Storytelling (PaS) is a training workshop focusing on the development and packaging of film projects suitable for co-production. It aims to familiarize young/emerging producers and filmmakers based in Africa, Asia, and Latin America with a variety of key tools and international coproduction techniques through group work and individual coaching on their projects.
Which aims?
As well Production and Storytelling aims to support the creation of a network of young producers from the three focus continents and to set up the foundations for lasting cooperation between European film professionals and emerging professionals from the Global South. Over the last few years, PaS has broadened our ways of working to not only focus on North-South exchanges but also South-South exchanges for co-production as an important part of the growing reality for global film production.
Which contents?
The Production and Storytelling workshop in Nantes, which takes place during the Festival des 3 Continents, is a seven-day training workshop that offers various courses that aim to study the chain of products including different international partners:
– masterclasses on co-production from European professionals
– pitch training sessions leading to a public presentation of projects to potential producers
– scriptwriting and production consultations with two days of individual analysis and feedback by scriptwriters and producers familiar with coproductions.
Each workshop is led by international professionals such as producers, legal experts, distributors, sales managers, scriptwriters, pitch experts, etc.
Which timeline?
During the year, the Production and Storytelling workshop is also organized abroad, in partnership with international film festivals. It is presented each year in Asuncion, Dubaï, Fortaleza and Taipei.
Production and Storytelling labs one-off labs have also been held in Lebanon, Mexico, Algeria, Argentina, Venezuela, Brazil, and Kenya. Production and Storytelling has become an indispensable tool for young producers and directors from Africa, Latin America, and Asia, eager to master the challenges of co-production and international markets. Its reputation is recognized worldwide as its structure and line-up are flexible to any part of the world.
Globalization has a huge impact on the cinema industry, filmmakers and emerging producers require a connection with international markets, and the know-how to navigate the competitive and demanding marketplace. Due to this, Production and Storytelling is constantly observing the movements and pulse of the world cinema industry and can help them specifically, personally, in a human scale kind of work.
