Adapted from a short story by Simon Navagattegama, the film follows a fierce woman who refuses to yield to life’s hardships. In a quiet rural village, Heen Kelle, a proud widow stands alone with her only son. The death of her husband has left her grieving in a world quick to judge and slow to offer help. Amidst a bustling village, only the cassava trees in her garden provide Heen Kelle with support, becoming her sole means of survival. Her defiant spirit makes her a target of the village’s scorn. The only person willing to aid her is Mudalali, a figure from her past — a former lover who once abandoned her to marry a wealthy woman.
