The Gaze

Based on Dostoevsky’s short story A Gentle Creature. A man reflects on the complexities of his marriage, pondering on a number of past events. The woman is the idealised creation of his imagination. Man thinks he can possess the woman. Yet he does not realise that she will possess him, especially when she starts showing signs of independence. Silent withdrawals of both the husband and wife are early signs of the couple’s break-up. A series of conflicts and reconciliations, rife with hate, remorse, hope and despair, leads to a tragic ending.
