A labourer from Kerala, Thommi is among the last of the immigrants who moved to neighbouring South Karnataka in search of land and a new life. He and his wife Omana managed to illegaly fence off a few acres of land and cultivate it.Like the other poor peasants, Thommi is terrorized by Bhaskara Patelar who was chief of the village until new land législation was introduced in the early 1960s. Although stripped of his légal powers Patelar continues to act as the all-powerful village chief. Unable to put up any résistance,Thommi is dragged into Patelar’s wrong doings.But the latter will prove to be both Thommi’s oppressor and benefactor…
