Fad’jal is another letter from the village, the topography is the same, work and days are the flesh of the film. But Safi Faye adds layers to her picture of village life. Colour accentuates faces, shadows and events. The story deepens the state of play, strictly speaking, by returning to the mythological origins of the village’s founding, that collides with the current technocratic decisions affecting the farmers’ lives. And the heterogenity of this documentary writing is what is especially striking in this film, this contrasted impression of a camera that is in these places like a character among others, like in the staggering birthing scene, but also withholds a power of invocation that is creative and magical.
