At her husband’s funeral, Rie discovers that he was not who he pretended to be. She hires a lawyer to discover the true identity of the man she loved. This ample fiction hands out ellipses and revelations without ever losing sight of the dramatic and human aspect of the upheavals faced by the characters. If the expected melodramatic tone doesn’t have time enough to set in, caught unawares as it is by the inquiry’s surprises, this investigation uncovers secrets about identity and how it is shared – secrets of memory and of a shared life. The surprising transfers from one character to the next also give this picture a subtle dimension of an ensemble film. FM
