Four filmmakers beloved by the Festival des 3 Continents audience—all former winners—will be in competition at Cannes this year. Four unique career paths, whose discovery in France, and for some, even in Europe, began in Nantes.
Hirokazu KORE-EDA (After Life, 1998), Asghar FARHADI (Fireworks Wednesday, 2006), Koji FUKADA (Summer Days, 2013), and Ryusuke HAMAGUCHI (Happy Hour/Senses, 2015, and Tales of Chance and Other Fantasies, 2021). We also welcome Arie ESIRI and Chuko ESIRI, who screened their 2020 film (Eyimofe (This Is My Desire) in Special Screenings and are now part of the Directors’Fortnight with their new film Clarissa.
Many PaS alumni are in Cannes this year!
Manuela MARTELLI (Chile), who is presenting her new film El Deshielo in the Un Certain Regard section, was in Nantes in 2015 for her project 1976, accompanied by her producer, Dominga SOTOMAYOR, whose film La Perra, which she also directed, is selected for the Directors’Fortnight.
On the other side of the world, the Thai film 9 Temples to Heaven, directed by Sompot CHIDGASORNPONGSE and produced by Kissada KAMYOUNG, developed within the Nantes workshop in 2020, will have its international premiere at the Directors’Fortnight.
Finally, the Nepalese duo of director Avinash BIKRAM Shah and producer Anup POUDEL are presenting their first feature film, Elephants in the Fog, in the Un Certain Regard section. They were both in Nantes in 2019 for another project entitled Seasons of the Dragonflies, which will be the director’s second feature film.
We wish them all and their films the warmest of welcomes.
Camille Vandenbunder, Secretary General of the Festival des 3 Continents, Jérôme Baron, Artistic Director, and Lucas Taillefer, Head of the PaS workshops, will be in Cannes from May 12 to 19.
