At the end of the Cultural Revolution, a passenger liner goes from Chonqing to Wuhan. On board is Qiushi, a well-known poet who had been wrongly imprisoned for six years, escorted by Li Yan and Liu Wenying. During the one-day trip, Qiushi’s misérable sufferings win wide sympathies from other passengers and crew members. They express their views and feelings in varions ways. Liu Wenying, the so-called revolutionary, understands Qiushi’s predicament and releases him with the captain’s help.
