With Hasan in Gaza

With Hasan in Gaza offers us some surprising images: gathered by a DV camera with no concern for framing in 2001 during the second Intifada. With no intended audience, forgotten then rediscovered, they show a territory now 80% destroyed. A man is looking for a former prison mate: by taxi or on foot, he scours towns, beaches, fears illuminated by the solar presence of children who are both playful and shy in front of the camera, the colours of a street market, a life that is insistent and seeks to pierce through the ruins. They live in Gaza, in 2001, but in the words of a woman whose house was hit by shell “what kind of life are we living now?”
