When Franco Lolli’s camera lands in the life of Silvia — a lawyer raising her eight-year-old son alone in Bogotá — she finds herself at a sensitive crossroads. The hum of medical scanners mingles with her ailing mother’s protests, the accusations of journalists and employers with the tireless games of her child. She must fight for her dignity at work, and for her mother’s dignity in illness. But she must also surrender, make room for gentleness, and welcome the inevitable. For his second feature, Franco Lolli has gathered a troupe of electrifying non-professional actors. Carried by the organic rhythm of his direction, they take us to the very summit of human tenderness. Violette Boucheton
