Seventeen-year-old Jooin triggers a storm at her high school when she refuses to sign a petition against a paedophile’s release from prison. Through its portrait of this elusive schoolgirl, The World of Love attempts the impossible exploration of the entire spectrum of the echoes of a sex crime, in both personal and societal terms and at different ages in life: adults, teenagers, young brothers and young sisters. Subtly and unobtrusively – albeit showing the terrible ordinariness of sex crimes – the film questions the status of the victims. It describes the specific arms that each of them can hone in their own way, and highlights, without untying it, the knot of contradictions between vital impulses, buried wounds and the latent guilt that immures a whole society and all its members when children become victims of a crime.
