A well-known potter from Bukhara has a tragic romance with a slave girl from the Issy-Kyl lake, resulting in the birth of their son who later becomes Mani, the great painter of the Middle Ages. Intrigues and jealousy force Mani to leave his home for other oriental countries where he masters the arts of painting and architecture. Returning home, he meets a beautiful woman. Though he is disappointed in love, he remains dedicated to his art.
