Vicky looks after public relations for a Taipei nightclub. She is split between two men, Hao-hao and Jack. Haohao keeps a constant eye on her: checks her accounts, phone bills and cell phone messages. Now, she has had enough of him. Millennium Mambo takes a headon look at the world of Taiwan’s youth. The filmmaker conveys its pulsating rhythm using a singular visual treatment and ambient sound that creates a dense and detailed off-screen world. Here all communication seems to be short-circuited whenever people try to contact each other, lost in a vast network of signs that is saturated, impenetrable. Maxime Martinot
