Before he took part in the Festival des 3 Continents’s International Competition with Hoy no tuve miedo (2011) and Toublanc (2017), Iván Fund participated in the Produire au Sud workshop with his film-project The Lips, co-directed by Santiago Loza, and presented at Cannes in 2010 for its premiere. In this film three women take up residency in a village in the country’s interior regions to bring their social worker skills to a disadvantaged population deprived of health care. The two Argentinian directors fix their gaze on the cracks in the relations between the carers and the cared-for: delicately stripping the characters of their social roles to observe the act of caring for others and for oneself.
