Psycho Raman 2.0 lends a new spike of intensity to the sensation of sulphurous adrenaline permeating the films of Anurag Kashyap. His interest in revisiting different genres leads us this time to a 1960s serial killer named Raman Raghav, who serves as his source of inspiration. But the character of his thirteenth feature film (again played by the outstanding Nawazuddin Siddiqui) believes in “crime for crime’s sake”, just as others believe in “art for art’s sake”. This psychopath spreads his vampire-like shadow over a low-class district in Mumbai that serves as his rat-trap, and becomes a young police officer’s worst nightmare. They engage in a game of chess where the pieces are never wholly black or wholly white. Aisha Rahim
