“A thousand years after the collapse of industrial civilisation”, the planet has been transformed into an apocalyptic scenario. Humans breathe through masks and attempt to resist by battling against an invasive toxic forest. Only one small valley is still inhabitable, where the young Princess Nausicaä lives. She alone seems able to question the cause of the disaster. The debut film of Studio Ghibli is a powerful tale of the destruction of ecosystems and the consequences of human irresponsibility towards the world we live in, as well as a wonderful reflection on our quest to bring a genuine meaning to politics.
