Trung, a young boy abandoned by his family is confronted with the hardship of continuing his schooling whilst making a living. He is also looking to escape the temptation of the criminal life his brother has chosen. Among the Vietnamese films that place children at the foreground, Light in Dream remains among the most regarded. At the end of the 1980s it perfectly reflects how a society is reshaped by the new socio-economic conditions and their consequences on the people who lead the most modest lives. Jérôme Baron
