BELIEVE IN THE FUTURE |
China - 2004
Synopsis: Wang Chuyu, is a poet and intellectual. Although he has been committed to a mental hospital, he remains true to his ideals and has more or less accepted his fate in contemporary society. Set in an actual Chinese mental hospital, the film is a documentary style account of one man's life as it unfolds over a ten-month period. The film seeks to shed some light on Wang Chuyu's motivations for staying true to his ideals and gracefully accepting his fate, explore the greater significance of his ideals in light of contemporary Chinese society and raise some important questions about the role (and fate) of Chinese intellectuals in this new century.
