Synopsis: Luiza is 16 and is tired of hearing about the end of the world. João is 22 and just got shot in the foot. Life goes on in Rio de Janeiro. Luiza thinks it's time to start over and to gather her friends around her. The Joy is a film about a girl who has decided to be joyful, about a group of friends and a city that is surrounded by beauty, ghosts and violence. Luiza is sure everything will be all right. And that the world will never end.

After graduating in Economics, he began his career in film in 2002 when his friend Eduardo Valente asked him to work as associate producer on his second short film Sentimental / Castanho.
After that, he left the job that he had held for the previous five years in the financial world to work exclusively in film production. In 2003, he set up the production company DUAS MARIOLA FILMES and produced several short films in Brazil.
A Alegria is his first feature. |

A filmmaker, a critic and a producer. He has made three short films - Waterbound, His Name (the clown) and Jonas and the Whale – that have received more than 10 international awards.
He also co-wrote the screenplay for In The Eye of the Storm and was co-screenwriter and assistant director on Karim Ainouz’s Suely in the Sky (Le ciel de Suely). He has just developed the screenplay for Walter Salles’s next film.
He is also a co-screenwriter for the HBO Latin America TV series Alice, directed by Karim Ainouz. |
