WITHOUT SUGAR |
Mauritius - 2006
Synopsis: The closing down of a sugar mill disrupts the life of a small village in Mauritius. Gaspard, a mechanic of 50 years old is forced to retire after having worked all his life in the sugar mill. To overcome his loneliness, he decides to repaint his house, something that he has not done since the death of his wife. His new life brings him in a relationship with Devi, his next-door neighbor.
As the last sugarcanes fall, the village unveils its state of mind through the characters of Gaspard, Devi, Bissoon,his son Ravi, the husband of Devi and the shopkeeper of the village, Ah Yun.

Parthiben Chellapermal comes from educational television where he has produced and directed numerous non-formal programmes. He has attended several short training programmes in script writing, production and direction at Ecole Internationale de Bordeaux (ACCT), FR3/CNDP and Deutch Welle.
He is the director of Caméléon Production and he is the executive producer of the documentary film Diego, the Forbidden and of the two short fictions, Colas and Bisanvil of David Constantin. |

David Constantin 31, is a graduate of the Ecole Supérieure de l’Audiovisuelle in Toulouse and the beneficiary of a scholarship at the Université d’Eté de la FEMIS in Paris.
He is the director of the documentary Diego, the forbidden (First feature Grand Prize in Vevey - Swizerland, Special mention of the Jury, Vues d’Afrique - Montréal) and two short fictions, Colas and Bisanvil (Competition Brest and Lille 2005, Public Award Amiens & Special Jury Award African film festival Réunion, Broadcasted).
He is currently shooting a documentary film on music in Rodrigues Island. He lives in Mauritius where he is a teacher in Audiovisual studies.
