Fiction and documentary competition
25 films, never shown in France before and marked by a high degree of
audacity. The jury will award a new prize called Nouveaux Regards (New
Looks), to highlight a particularly innovative film from an aesthetic
point of view.
"Our year in films"
This section will include premiere screenings of about 10 remarkable
films of the year, to be released soon.
Satyajit
Ray - a complete retrospective + info
" With all due allowance, Ray achieved by himself what the French
Nouvelle Vague was to generate as a group some time later. " Charles
Tesson, Satyajit Ray (Éditions Cahiers du Cinéma)
Produire
au Sud: Fathers and Sons + info
The 8 participants to the Produire au Sud seminar will each choose and
present to our audience a film which was instrumental in their vocation
as a producer. This will be an eclectic kind of carte blanche, both
geographically and historically, and it will include many nice surprises.
Focus + info
A brief yet effective way to shed light on countries where film news
is being made (Thailand, Korea, Chile...).
And a selection of
films made in the framework of the Produire au Sud seminar.
Special screenings
Continent
B: All You Need Is Love
This festival section is dedicated to genre films and unclassifiable
film objects. Romance and carnal knowledge will be explored through
6 films.
A
film concert: "The devil, he never leaves me alone"
The Festival continues to experiment with image and sound. This year,
the local Grand Groove Orchestra jazz band will perform during the screening
of a landmark in film history in general and black cinema in particular
- King Vidor's Hallelujah (1929). This is an F3C, MCLA and Olympic coproduction.
Supporting
films from the South
The Festival of
the 3 Continents not only shows films from so-called Southern countries,
but also supports actions promoting the development of films which meet
its principles and presenting national cinemas from Southern countries.
These actions are aimed at both film professionals and the general audience.
Produire
au Sud
This will be our 7th young producers' training seminar. It is now an
internationally recognised instrument which enables the most talented
producers to benefit from expertise, support and networking, giving
them the opportunity to complete original projects. The seminar is held
in Nantes, but other seminars are also held in other countries several
times a year : in Recife and Buenos Aires last April, in Beirut in September,
in Bangkok in October. Producers will get the support of the Produire
au Sud network in Cannes for the third year in 2006.
Doc
au Sud
Fostered by film professionals, this new forum is Produire au Sud's
documentary sistership. Doc au Sud will focus on the distribution, rather
than production, of creative documentaries in European cinemas. Organised
in partnership with RED (Réseau d'échange et d'expérimentation
pour la diffusion du cinéma documentaire - Exchange and experiment
network for the distribution of documentary films), this programme will
focus on 3 directions:
+ documentary film-makers taking part in the 2006 festival will benefit
from a master class on funding and aid aimed at Southern documentaries
(through meetings with European professionals).
+ a selection of documentaries will be shown to film professionals specially
invited to Nantes in order to foster their theatrical distribution in
France.
+ distribution issues will be discussed during a round table with documentary
film professionals.
Educational
and cultural actions
From its inception, the F3C has held special screenings for high-school
students. It also takes an active part in the Collèges au cinéma
and Lycéens au cinéma schemes (film education programmes
in French high schools). Every year students make up about 5,000 festival
admissions. In 2006, such actions will be increased both for the school
students and for the general audience:
+ Teacher training all year round (half-days or full days at the Cinématographe
in February, April and October);
+ Expanding our collaboration with cinemas: - in the region in October-November;
- within the département all year round;
+ Supporting films shown in the F3C upon their nationwide theatrical
release;
+ Specific actions in urban areas with local general and cultural associations.
