Hassen Ferhani was born in Algiers in 1986. In 2006, he directed his first short film Les Baies d’Alger. He took part in l’Université d’été at La Fémis and co-directed Afric Hotel (2010). Later on, he made Tarzan, Don Quichotte et nous (2013), which was presented at Visions du Réel, FIDMarseille and Locarno, and which had already reflected his interest in documentary bordering on fiction. In 2015 he directed his first feature film, Dans ma tête un rond-point, shot at the abattoirs of Algiers. His next film 143 Sahara Street (2019) won the Montgolfière d’argent, the Audience Award and the Young Jury Award at the Festival des 3 Continents 2019.
