An initial review:
The 29th Festival of the 3 Continents had almost 37,000 general public admissions, including 5,000 school admissions.
More than 500 accreditations were issued. Attendance figures are therefore stable.
This year, the festival decided to organize fewer screenings (to allow for more time between them) for a similar number of films (around 110) but better distributed over the week.

A few high points

A single competition
The screening of fiction and documentary films on an equal footing was well received by audiences who were able to discover all the documentaries at the Katorza while the Cinématographe retained its "research" vocation (Akram Zaatari, an adjunct to the documentary competition). Most of the competition films found distributors, highlighting the attractiveness of the Festival of the 3 Continents for professionals

Nagisa Oshima retrospective
The Nagisa Oshima retrospective was a huge success with audiences and critics, even more so than the works of S. Ray last year. One high point was the round table in the presence of Hubert Niogret, René Phalippou, Julien Gester, Charles Tesson, Diane Arnaud and Nicolas Thévenin, justified by a dual event: the large-scale retrospective devoted to Nagisa Oshima, and the publication, during the festival, of a booklet edited in partnership with Carlotta Films, offering different views of his films.

Akram Zaatari
Even though audiences did not go to the Cinématographe in great numbers to discover this programme revolving around the work of Akram Zaatari, those who did come were curious and, in some cases, faithful. Through our conversations with audiences, we were able to confirm the favourable reception given to this programme and so consider that this interaction around video art, between fiction, documentary and the work of a visual artist, lays the foundations for reflection that we shall strive to extend in coming years in order to remain in close contact with artistic creation.

Producing in the South, the seminar and the films
Producing in the South films now contribute to the programmes of the Festival of the 3 Continents. A system for assisting professionals (producers and directors) and films has been set up for international markets, notably at Cannes with the Cinemas of the South pavilion.

The African Short Film Forum at the Grand T (Thursday, November 22nd)
Along the lines of Producing in the South and to extend its work as a support fund for short films from sub-Saharan Africa, the festival brought together key figures of short film in Europe and Africa. New outlines for the development of this fund were defined during the forum.

Continent J
The first year of this programme specially designed for young audiences was an immediate success with 5,000 school admissions ranging from primary schools to students.
Most of these young audiences attended the lectures, encounters and educational workshops. The educational work will continue throughout 2008 with the teachers and their students, through the involvement of the programming team behind Continent J.

Public awareness operations
These operations have been a success since the renewal of the festival audience is obvious. A series of public awareness operations on a local and regional level has already been planned for 2008 (in partnership with associations and various socio-cultural bodies) to confirm and strengthen this trend.
